Khartoum, June 24 (Darfur24)
A police officer was killed and another injured in White Nile State after members of the Joint Force allegedly opened fire inside a traffic police station in Jebelain following a dispute over the release of a truck driver involved in a traffic accident.
According to police sources, the confrontation escalated after prosecutors ordered the driver’s release, prompting an argument between Joint Force members and police officers. Assistant Police Officer Ahmed Mohamed Al-Ajab later died from gunshot wounds, while another officer was injured. The Sudanese army intervened, arrested the suspects, and transferred them for legal proceedings.
In a separate incident in Port Sudan, clashes broke out between fighters from armed movements allied with the army and anti-narcotics police during a drug-control operation in the Libya Market area. Two anti-narcotics officers and several civilians were injured, and a police vehicle was burned.
The incidents have raised concerns about growing tensions between security agencies and armed groups operating in army-controlled areas.
