Nyala, November 04 (Darfur24)
The prime minister of the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS), Mohamed Hassan Al-Ta’aishi, has appointed directors for six public universities in Darfur areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
According to an order seen by Darfur24, Abdul Ghani Abu Al-Qasim Adam Rijal was appointed director of Nyala University; Adam Hassan Adam Al-Hajj, director of El Fasher University; Awad Allah Ibrahim Al-Douma, director of Zalingei University.
Al-Bashir Abdullah Al-Bashir Al-Nadhif was appointed director of Al-Salam University; Fadl Allah Hamdan Abkar Qadim, director of Al-Junaynah University; and Al-Sadiq Abdullah Adam Juma, director of Al-Daein University.
The appointments come amid efforts by community groups and local authorities in several Darfur states to rehabilitate university facilities damaged during the war and resume academic activities.
Last June, TASIS organised Sudanese Certificate examinations in areas under its control and announced the results, in what appeared to be an effort to assume responsibility for public institutions and services in those areas.
The developments come as Sudan faces an administrative and institutional split following the outbreak of war between the Sudanese army and the RSF, raising concerns that the division could extend to higher education, including the recognition of academic certificates and qualifications.
