Kabkabiya, April 28 (Darfur24
At least seven civilians were killed and others injured on Monday when a military drone struck a passenger vehicle in the Gara al-Zawiya market, west of Kabkabiya in North Darfur State, according to eyewitnesses and local sources.
A Darfur24 correspondent said the drone initially targeted a four-wheel drive combat vehicle before striking a civilian car in a parking area inside the town, causing immediate casualties among passengers.
The wounded were transported to Kabkabiya Rural Hospital for treatment.
Relatives of one of the victims, Ibrahim Zakaria, confirmed he was killed in the attack, describing him as a civilian trader with no affiliation to any military group.
A local leader in North Darfur said drone strikes have become a near-daily occurrence in the Kabkabiya area, spreading fear among residents.
He added that the victims were civilians traveling to a weekly market when the strike occurred.
The Sudanese army has previously called on armed groups to avoid operating within populated areas and to prevent harm to civilians.
Since the outbreak of conflict in April 2023, drone attacks have increasingly been used by both sides, frequently impacting civilian as well as military targets.
