Kadugli, August 3(Darfur 24)
At least two civilians were killed and three others were injured on Sunday as the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement led by Abdulaziz Adam Al-Hilu launched heavy artillery shelling on residential neighborhoods in Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan state.
Local sources told Darfur 24 that eleven artillery shells landed in the neighborhoods of An Batah, Hajar Balila, and Al-Salamat, located in the northern part of the city, causing casualties and significant material damage.
They reported that the shelling began at 11:30 a.m. and continued until 1:00 p.m., marking one of the longest attacks carried out by the movement on the city since the beginning of the war.
An eyewitness said, “This is the first time we’ve seen shelling lasting more than an hour. The sound of the shells shook the neighborhoods, and the residents were in a state of extreme terror.”
He explained that all the shells fell in densely populated residential areas.
Neither the SPLM Al-Hilu nor government authorities have commented on the shelling.
This escalation comes at a time when residents of Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan state, are suffering from deteriorating living conditions, amid warnings of an impending humanitarian disaster that could reach the level of famine, according to local sources.
