About 730 people have been displaced from five villages in Al-Abbasiya locality, South Kordofan State, amid worsening insecurity, according to the International Organization for Migration’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM).
The IOM said its field teams recorded displacement from Umm Luta, Daqaq Fur, Zarami, Al-Lubana and Al-Saisban. The displaced families fled to other areas within Al-Abbasiya locality and to Umm Ruwaba locality in neighboring North Kordofan State.
The agency said the security situation in the area remains tense and volatile, adding that its teams are continuing to monitor population movements.
The latest displacement follows renewed fighting in eastern South Kordofan between the Sudanese army and the Ta’sis Alliance, which includes the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu.
Clashes around Al-Abbasiya intensified in late August after months of reduced ground fighting. The Ta’sis forces announced that they had captured Jabal al-Damra west of Al-Abbasiya and later advanced toward the Tebessa area, where the army said it repelled an attack.
The renewed violence is part of a broader escalation of fighting across Kordofan, which has triggered repeated waves of displacement from villages and communities near front lines.
The IOM has reported more than 200,000 displacements in Kordofan since late 2025 as fighting intensified across the region.
