Nyala, October 23 (Darfur24)
Members of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) arrested a trader in Nyala, South Darfur, and demanded three million in exchange for his release, residents told Darfur24.
The residents said Nasr al-Din Ishaq was arrested in front of his shop in a neighbourhood north of the city last Monday.
Eyewitnesses and local sources said the trader had closed his shop and was heading to the El Geneina bus station market, carrying money to buy goods, when RSF members in a combat vehicle stopped him a few metres from his shop.
They said the arrest followed a verbal altercation, after which they took the trader to an undisclosed location.
According to the sources, the armed force contacted Nasr al-Din’s family 24 hours after his arrest and demanded three million for his release.
Residents also said that individuals wearing RSF uniforms and unfamiliar to the neighbourhood had been monitoring the trader in the days leading up to his arrest.
Several other traders arrested by the RSF at different times remain in detention, including Abdullah Bakistani, who has been held for nearly two years, according to residents.
