Eyewitnesses and local sources said on Saturday that the local government headquarters HQs in Nyala, South Darfur, was attacked by a drone believed to be a suicide attack.
A trader in Nyala’s Grand Market told Darfur 24 that they saw the drone crash in the western part of the city, followed by a violent explosion that shook the area, with thick columns of smoke rising from the blast site inside the government headquarters.
Eyewitnesses explained that Rapid Support Forces (RSF) quickly surrounded the site and closed all roads leading to the government secretariat building from the southern side near the Wildlife Department, from the northern side near Nyala Stadium, and from the eastern side facing the market. They fired live ammunition to disperse citizens who had gathered near the site.
Sources from the Civil Administration and the RSF confirmed that the attack targeted the Khalifa Abdullah al-Ta’aishi Hall, located in the southern part of the building, completely burning the hall and destroying a car parked nearby.
Darfur 24 was unable to verify any casualties, including those killed or injured, as a result of the bombing.
The government secretariat building is one of the most prominent facilities to have undergone maintenance and rehabilitation after sustaining severe damage during the clashes that erupted between the Sudanese army and the rebels. and the Rapid Support Forces in 2023. The headquarters is located near the army command.
The building is currently used as the headquarters of the Chairman of the Supreme Council for Civil Administration in Darfur, Al-Nadhir Younis Mukhair, along with the Head of the Civil Administration in South Darfur State, Youssef Idris Youssef.
The bombing comes just days before the “Tassis Alliance” announced its intention to form a government and select Nyala as its administrative capital, including the government secretariat building among the proposed government headquarters.
