Abu Zabad, July 11(Darfur 24)

Eight civilians, including displaced persons, were killed in an airstrike on Thursday, July 10, that targeted two schools used as concentration centers for displaced people in the city of Abu Zabad, West Kordofan State. This is a new escalation that exacerbates the suffering of residents and displaced persons in the area.

The Abu Zeid Emergency Room stated in a statement received by Darfur 24 that the bombing targeted Osama Bin Zaid School and Al-Wifaq School, in addition to neighboring homes, as a two warplanes dropped bombs in the area, killing eight people, including children.

The Emergency Room confirmed that the attacks were not directed to any military targets, but rather constitute a documented war crime, particularly since Osama Bin Zaid School and Al-Wifaq School are being used as concentration centers for internally displaced persons.

This bombing comes less than a month after a previous airstrike targeted a girls’ secondary school in the same area, in the context of an escalation that exacerbates the tragedy of families displaced by the ongoing conflict.

The statement expressed its strong condemnation of what it described as “the repeated campaign against civilians,” stressing that these attacks “have no military justification and constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.”
