Four civilians from the same family, including a woman and a child, were killed when Sudanese army warplanes bombed the village of Jafawa, about 50 kilometers southwest of El Obeid in North Kordofan State, on August 31, according to local sources.
Sources in El Obeid told Darfur24 that those killed were Abdullah Yusuf Abdul Majeed, his wife Maryam Muhammad Mahdi, his niece Fatima Ahmed Ali, and his grandson Hussein Abdullah.
The airstrike comes amid worsening security conditions in villages around El Obeid, where repeated attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), along with airstrikes and drone attacks, have caused civilian casualties and displacement.
According to the UN Human Rights Office, at least 45 civilians were killed and 41 injured in 15 drone attacks targeting El Obeid and surrounding areas between June 6 and 28. The attacks hit markets, schools, fuel stations, water facilities and civilian vehicles.
Other recent drone attacks have also caused civilian casualties in North Kordofan. A strike on the Um Shuru area northeast of Sudri locality in late August killed eight civilians, while an attack on Dilling on August 29 killed three civilians and injured 14 others, according to local sources and Emergency Lawyers.
The UN has warned that drones have become among the deadliest weapons used against civilians in Sudan. The UN Human Rights Office documented at least 880 civilian deaths from drone strikes between January and April 2026, accounting for more than 80% of conflict-related civilian deaths recorded during that period.
