El Fasher, October 9 (Darfur24)

At least eight people were killed and several others, including children, were injured when Rapid Support Forces (RSF) shelled the Saudi Specialized Hospital for Women and Maternity in El Fasher on Tuesday evening.

Witnesses, including patient attendants, told Darfur24 that five consecutive artillery shells struck the hospital, killing women and children on the spot and injuring many others.

A medical source at the facility confirmed that the death toll had reached eight by Tuesday night and warned the number could rise due to multiple critical cases and additional wounded being transferred from residential areas also targeted in the shelling.

The medical source noted that the hospital is the only functioning health facility providing services to war-affected residents in El Fasher. He warned that the RSF’s attack appeared aimed at destroying the population’s last lifeline.

On Tuesday, Darfur24 reporters inside the hospital witnessed the arrival of dozens of wounded at the emergency department in Al-Kawaro and Al-Dardagat, waiting for urgent care.

Ibrahim Othman, a relative of one of the injured, said there are no functioning ambulances in the city, forcing families to transport the wounded using traditional means.

He added that many victims die before reaching the hospital due to bleeding and complications, while others die waiting for treatment because of severe shortages of medical staff and the deteriorating conditions inside the facility.
