Nyala, October 31 (Darfur24)

The whereabouts of a trader and his wife abducted from their home in Nyala, South Darfur, last week remain unknown, as members of their tribe call on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to disclose their location and secure their release.

Dozens of members of the Asanqur tribe protested outside the judiciary headquarters in Nyala last Thursday, demanding the couple’s release and condemning the alleged involvement of RSF members in their abduction.

Ibrahim Adam Tabak, the tribe’s leader, said in a statement seen by Darfur24 that an armed force led by Lieutenant Colonel Awad al-Sayed Hamdan Abdul-Rasoul, an RSF commander, abducted trader Mohammed Abdullah Mahmoud Abu Qarjah and his wife from their home and took them to an undisclosed location.

Tabak alleged that several individuals from another tribal group, including Bashir Yahya, Ibrahim Hamdan and al-Nour Hassan Abbas, had ordered the abduction.

He said the incident had left the couple’s nine-month-old daughter without her parents.

In its statement, the tribe urged the RSF to investigate the incident, reveal the couple’s whereabouts, secure their release and ensure accountability. It also called on the force to protect civilians in areas under its control.

Darfur24 was unable to reach the individuals named in the statement for comment and did not receive an official response from the RSF regarding the alleged abduction.
