The Sudanese army announced the crash of a military plane north of Omdurman, killing a number of military personnel and civilians.

The army spokesman said in a brief statement that the plane crashed while taking off from Wadi Saydna Airport on Tuesday evening, and continued, “We have counted a number of martyrs and injured military and civilian personnel. The injured were treated while firefighting teams were able to control the fire at the plane crash site in Housing District 75.”

Reports also confirmed that the ill-fated Antonov plane crashed minutes after takeoff in Housing District 75, where it fell on two houses.

A number of army officers were killed in the incident, including, Major General Bahr Ahmed Bahr, the commander of operations in the Bahri area.
