El Obeid, November 06 (Darfur24)
Fierce clashes erupted on Thursday between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) west and southwest of El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, amid conflicting claims over control of four strategic areas.
The joint force of armed struggle movements allied with the army announced that it had taken control of Umm Samima, Kazqil, Al-Hamadi and Abu Qud. However, RSF fighters later released videos claiming their forces remained in control of the same locations.
In a statement on Thursday, the joint force said its troops, alongside the army and other allied forces, had launched extensive military operations on the North Kordofan front before conducting clearance operations in the four areas.
It claimed the operations destroyed 40 combat vehicles and captured 43 others, along with their equipment. The statement also reported that several RSF fighters had been killed, while others fled the fighting.
Neither the Sudanese army nor the RSF had issued an official statement on the outcome of the clashes or confirmed control of the four areas by the time of publication.
