Deterioration of humanitarian conditions for displaced persons from Blue Nile

Wad Al-Mahi, October 05 (Darfur24)

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Sunday that about 2,800 people, or 560 families, were displaced in a single day from 10 villages in Wad Al-Mahi locality in the Blue Nile region amid deteriorating security conditions.

The organization said the displacement affected residents of Miri, Jabal Nimr, Abu Qadaf, Bashkarkat, Ab Jankur, Makla, Matnaqiyah, Jabal Al-Nour, Minza and Manshling.

The displaced people fled their homes and headed to Al-Rawasirs locality, according to the IOM, amid continued security tensions in parts of the region.

On Saturday, areas including Kadalo, Minza and Jabal Nimr in eastern Blue Nile witnessed fighting between the Sudanese army and an alliance involving the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N).

The areas, located in Wad Al-Mahi locality about 50 kilometers from Damazin, are considered strategically important because of their position along the eastern edge of the region and proximity to the Ethiopian border.

Control of the area could affect military deployments and access routes in the wider eastern Blue Nile region.
