Serba, July 07 (Darfur24)
International Criminal Court (ICC) Deputy Prosecutor Nazhat Shameem Khan met with Sudanese refugees from Darfur during a visit to the Farchana and Goz Beida refugee camps in eastern Chad, where she heard firsthand accounts of alleged atrocities committed during the conflict.
During the meetings, Khan reaffirmed that the situation in Darfur remains a priority for the Office of the Prosecutor, emphasizing that the court’s investigations rely heavily on the testimonies of victims and survivors.
She said the evidence collected by the prosecution reflects the scale of alleged crimes committed against civilians in Darfur, including persecution, other serious human rights violations and widespread conflict-related sexual violence.
The visit forms part of the ICC Prosecutor’s Office’s ongoing efforts to advance investigations into crimes committed in Darfur by gathering evidence directly from victims and witnesses and supporting efforts to ensure accountability and justice for those affected by the conflict.
