Damazin, June 04 (Darfur24)

Fierce clashes erupted on Wednesday in the Al-Baraka area south of Damazin in Sudan’s Blue Nile region between the Sudanese army and a joint force of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), amid conflicting claims over control of the area.

Social media accounts affiliated with the RSF circulated videos that they said showed their forces taking control of Al-Baraka following an offensive launched earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, platforms supporting the Sudanese army reported that army forces had repelled the attack and reasserted control over the area after intense fighting.

An army commander stated on Facebook that the armed forces had regained control of Al-Baraka after RSF fighters entered the area during the early morning hours.

As of the time of publication, neither the Sudanese Armed Forces nor the RSF had issued an official statement clarifying the military situation on the ground or confirming which side currently controls the area.

The Blue Nile region has witnessed escalating military operations in recent months involving the Sudanese army, the RSF, and the SPLM-N. The fighting has triggered repeated waves of displacement and contributed to a worsening humanitarian situation across several parts of the region.
