Officials have warned of a severe deterioration in living conditions in Dar es Salaam locality, North Darfur State, amid shortages of food, medicine and healthcare, and called for urgent humanitarian intervention.
Residents and displaced people told Darfur24 that the humanitarian situation has deteriorated sharply, with rising food prices and limited access to essential medicines and medical services.
Local official Adam Saleh said the locality is facing severe food shortages, with prices of staple grains such as millet and corn rising beyond the reach of many families.
He said the deteriorating conditions have contributed to a rise in malnutrition, particularly among children and women, while humanitarian assistance remains insufficient.
“Most families depend on one meal a day,” Saleh said, warning that cases of acute malnutrition are being reported daily, particularly among children, women and elderly people.
Zahra Yass Ahmed, a humanitarian volunteer, said displaced people who fled El Fasher, along with host communities in Dar es Salaam, are facing increasingly difficult conditions due to shortages of food and medicine.
She called on humanitarian organizations to urgently increase assistance to residents of Dar es Salaam locality and surrounding villages to prevent further deterioration.
