Wad Al-Kahli/El Obeid/Kabkabiya, May 04 (Darfur24)

Air and drone strikes across multiple regions of Sudan over the weekend have killed civilians, damaged critical infrastructure, and intensified fears among residents, as fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continues to escalate.

In Wad Al-Kahli village, east of Al-Jazirah State, several members of the family of Sudan Shield Forces commander Abu Aqla Kikel were killed in a dawn airstrike on Sunday that targeted their home.

Youssef Amara Abu Sin, media adviser to the Sudan Shield Forces, said the attack killed Azzam Kikel, Mohamed Al-Siddiq Kikel, Abdullah Qasim Allah Rahma, and Al-Siddiq Bakhit Mohamed Bakhit, while Haider and Khalid Kikel were injured. Azzam Kikel held the rank of major in the force.

Abu Sin added that the victims, including women and children, were buried in the village of Al-Kahli Zaidan. The Sudan Shield Forces have issued no official comment regarding the strike.

Kikel, who founded the Sudan Shield Forces in 2022, had previously allied with the RSF before defecting to the Sudanese army, later playing a role in retaking Al-Jazirah State in early 2025.

In North Kordofan, drone strikes targeted the state radio and television headquarters in El Obeid, causing extensive damage to facilities and halting operations.

Sources inside the station said the attack destroyed key sections of the complex, including the television library, which housed a significant historical archive, as well as the Peace Studio and administrative offices.

Meanwhile, in Kabkabiya in North Darfur, residents reported deaths and injuries following heavy aerial bombardment on Friday.

Local sources said drones struck parts of the main market, the courthouse, and residential neighborhoods, while also targeting positions linked to the RSF. One source said the attack killed at least one civilian and injured others due to shrapnel, while another indicated that RSF fighters were also among the casualties after strikes hit combat vehicles and a fuel truck.

Since the outbreak of war in April 2023, Sudan has experienced sustained fighting between the army and the RSF, with drones increasingly used in attacks that impact both military targets and civilian areas.
