Civilians were killed and wounded on Sunday in a drone strike that hit several areas of Kulbus, about 65 kilometers north of El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur State, according to residents.
A resident who requested anonymity told Darfur24 that a drone, believed to belong to the Sudanese army, approached from the northeast and carried out strikes near the rural hospital, customs office and local market. The drone also targeted a Rapid Support Forces (RSF) gathering near the city, as well as other locations in Kulbus.
Another witness said the strikes caused civilian deaths and injuries near the hospital. Several of the wounded were transferred to El Geneina Teaching Hospital for treatment, the witness said.
The attack caused panic among residents, while the exact number of casualties and the extent of the damage remained unclear.
Drone warfare has intensified across Sudan in 2026, with attacks increasingly hitting populated areas and civilian facilities alongside military targets, particularly in Darfur and Kordofan.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said the increased use of drones by both sides of the conflict contributed to a sharp rise in civilian casualties, with at least 880 civilians killed between January and April 2026. More than 80% of conflict-related civilian deaths during that period were attributed to drone attacks.
