Nyala, March 24 (Darfur24)
The Emergency Lawyers Group said on Monday that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have filed charges against several activists detained in Nyala, South Darfur, following their participation in a women’s rights workshop.
In a statement obtained by Darfur24, the group stated that the arrests began on February 26, when Dr. Manal Mustafa was detained from her home without a legal warrant. Over the following days, several other activists and journalists were arrested in similar raids.
The group said the detainees were targeted after organizing a workshop on women’s rights and international conventions, including UN Security Council Resolution 1325, despite having obtained official permits.
According to the statement, the detainees were interrogated about their activities and links to international organizations, and later charged with offenses including cooperating with the Sudanese government, collecting sensitive information, and producing reports for international circulation, without publicly available evidence.
The group said the detainees remain held in undisclosed locations without legal safeguards, with families denied access and no information on their health conditions.
It described the arrests as arbitrary and a violation of fundamental rights, including freedom of expression and association, and called on the RSF to release the detainees, disclose their whereabouts, and ensure their safety.
