New York, April 01 (Darfur24)

The United Nations has called on parties to the conflict in Sudan to halt attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure and ensure the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid across the country.

UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq told reporters in New York that recent violence in several regions, particularly in the Kordofan states, has resulted in civilian casualties and worsening humanitarian conditions.

He said key roads linking El Obeid to Dilling and Kadugli have become increasingly insecure, disrupting the movement of humanitarian and commercial supplies. Bureaucratic restrictions have further complicated aid delivery, with basic medical services in El Obeid reportedly suspended for nearly a month.

Haq added that escalating fighting near the Ethiopia border in Blue Nile State has severely limited humanitarian operations, while insecurity and movement restrictions in Darfur continue to hinder access to affected populations.

“Aid workers are facing armed robberies and attacks along main roads, while some organizations have been forced to suspend operations entirely,” he said, warning that vulnerable communities are being left without essential services.

Despite the challenges, Haq stressed that the United Nations and its partners remain committed to delivering assistance across Sudan, emphasizing that the protection of civilians is a fundamental obligation under international humanitarian law.
