Forbaranga, January 29 (Darfur24)

The Chamber of Commerce in Forbaranga, West Darfur State, closed the city’s main market on Tuesday in solidarity with a trader who was kidnapped by unknown armed men, in a protest against the worsening security situation in the city.

Local sources told Darfur24 that the trader was abducted for financial extortion. The kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom of approximately 15 billion Sudanese pounds in exchange for his release and allowed the abducted man to contact his family by phone.

The incident sparked widespread concern and anger among traders and residents in Forbaranga, alongside calls for strengthened security measures to ensure the trader’s safety and curb the growing spread of kidnapping and extortion crimes.

Forbaranga, located south of Al-Junaynah, is the second-largest city in West Darfur State and the region’s main commercial hub. The city hosts the livestock market that serves as the primary supplier to the Al-Muwaylih market.
