The International Organization for Migration’s Displacement Tracking Matrix announced on Thursday that hundreds of families from various areas in Darfur and Kordofan have fled their homes due to fires and ongoing security disturbances.
The organization confirmed the displacement of 50 families following a fire that broke out in the town of Asalaya in East Darfur State. The affected families were displaced to open areas within the same locality.
According to the report, 20 shelters were destroyed, and 30 others were partially damaged by the fire, which erupted on Tuesday, January 6.
The matrix also documented another fire that occurred on Monday, January 5, 2026, in the village of Tawal Barno, Rahad al-Bardi locality, South Darfur. The incident led to the displacement of 31 families, who were similarly relocated to open areas within the same region. The fire destroyed approximately 11 shelters and partially damaged 20 others.
On the same date, field teams estimated that about 2,000 people were displaced from the village of Sarha in Umm Dam Al-Haj Ahmed locality, North Kordofan State, due to escalating insecurity.
The displaced individuals reportedly moved to various locations across Omdurman locality in Khartoum State, as the security situation remains highly tense and volatile.
