Dongola, July 15( Darfur 24)A one policeman was killed and three others were seriously injured as unidentified gunmen attacked a police station in Dongola, Northern State in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Sources and eyewitnesses in Northern State, who preferred to remain anonymous, told Darfur 24 that an armed group of four individuals in a saloon car carried out the attack, firing a grenade at the station. The attack resulted in the death of Policeman Mohamed Osman Ambash and the injury of three others. The station’s vehicle was also set on fire and parts of the administrative offices were damaged.
The sources explained that the attackers later headed to the Agricultural Bank headquarters adjacent to the police station, where an armed clash erupted between them and two security guards. No injuries or theft of the bank’s contents occurred.
The injured were transferred to the Qatari Hospital in the Tangasi area, amid heightened security alert, including the closure of the city’s entrances and the deployment of army and security forces to track down the perpetrators.
According to a source in the Public Prosecution, a report was filed and referred to the Public Prosecution.
For his part, Musa Abdullah, a citizen from Dongola, said that random shooting has become almost daily in the city, despite the curfew and the ban on the uncontrolled use of weapons.
He pointed out that many of the organized crimes witnessed in the state are believed to be carried out by a group known as “Awlad Qamri,” which controls several random gates in the area.
He added: “The attack on the police station and several other crimes within the city are carried out professionally by this group without being held accountable.
