Nyala, April 24(Darfur 24)

Doctors at the Turkish hospital in Nyala went on an open-ended strike on Wednesday to protest the shooting inside the intensive care unit, according to sources and eyewitnesses.

Eyewitnesses told Darfur 24 that a Rapid Support Forces soldier stormed the hospital’s intensive care unit and fired shots, claiming the health of a patient he was accompanying had deteriorated.

The Turkish hospital in Nyala has been suffering from shutdowns for various reasons, including shortages of medicine and fuel to operate the power plant since the Turkish administration left last year.

In the same context, residents confirmed the deteriorating health conditions in Nyala, with a shortage of medicines for some chronic diseases and medical supplies.

Resident Ismail Ali told Darfur 24 that insulin, a medication for diabetes, is unavailable in Nyala, noting that he had searched for the medicine in all Nyala pharmacies, but to no avail.

He stated that he was forced to bring medicine from El Daein recently due to its unavailability in Nyala.

Citizens who spoke to Darfur 24 indicated that the prices of medical supplies have risen amid a shortage of intravenous solutions and dialysis cables, leaving patients with the costs of treatment due to their unavailability at the center.

Some health facilities, which were evacuated during the fighting in Nyala between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, have returned to service, including Nyala Specialized Teaching Hospital, amid complaints from citizens about the lack of specialized medical personnel who have fled the city due to the war and security situation.
