El Fasher, October 26 (Darfur24)
Health sources have warned of deteriorating conditions among about 100 women detained at a secret detention centre run by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, citing medicine shortages and a lack of medical care.
Sources told Darfur24 that the women were believed to have been arrested at different times after the RSF seized control of the city in late October 2025.
A doctor told Darfur24 that the detainees’ health was continuing to deteriorate. Some suffer from chronic illnesses, while epidemics and other diseases have reportedly spread inside the detention centre.
The doctor warned that the lack of medical care and essential medicines posed a serious threat to the women’s lives, and called on human rights organisations to intervene urgently.
The warnings follow local reports that dozens of women lost contact with their families after returning to El Fasher to register for humanitarian assistance provided by international organisations.
The RSF took control of El Fasher in late October 2025, after seizing the Sudanese army’s last major stronghold in the Darfur region.
