The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said it has distributed and installed 3,000 tents for displaced families at the Dabba Nayra camp in Tawila, North Darfur State, with support from the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
Tawila is one of Sudan’s largest displacement hubs, hosting an estimated 665,000 displaced people, most of whom fled El Fasher and surrounding areas because of the ongoing conflict.
In a statement, the IOM said safe shelter is essential for restoring privacy, stability, and dignity for conflict-affected communities, and that the distributed tents have provided safer accommodation for thousands of families.
The organization warned that humanitarian needs in Tawila remain severe and continue to grow, with reports of declining services and the spread of diseases, including cholera, linked to shortages of clean drinking water.
IOM said it is continuing to expand its shelter programs at Dabba Nayra camp to provide timely assistance as needs evolve on the ground.
