Port Sudan, January 08 (Darfur24)

The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander of the Sudanese Army, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, held talks on Wednesday with Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Walid al-Khuraiji on the Saudi–US peace initiative aimed at ending the conflict in Sudan.

In a press statement, the Sudanese Sovereignty Council said that Al-Burhan expressed his appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their efforts and commitment to supporting peace and stability in Sudan.

Al-Burhan also thanked US President Donald Trump for his interest in the Sudanese crisis and his efforts to stop the war and support the establishment of peace.

According to the statement, the meeting discussed the peace initiative sponsored by the Saudi Crown Prince and the US President, addressing ongoing arrangements to convene the Saudi-Sudanese Strategic Coordination Council, which is held under the patronage of the leadership of both countries.

The meeting came hours after separate discussions in Riyadh between Saudi officials and the US President’s advisor for the Middle East and the Horn of Africa, Massad Boulos, focusing on the Sudanese crisis.

Boulos said in a post on the “X” platform that he held a “fruitful meeting” with Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman Al Saud, Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Deputy Foreign Minister Walid al-Khuraiji, and Political Affairs Advisor Musab bin Mohammed Al-Farhan.

He added that the talks focused on joint efforts, in coordination with regional partners, to reach a humanitarian ceasefire in Sudan, as well as ways to strengthen the US-Saudi partnership on regional issues.
