Al-Dabba, July 15 (Darfur24)

At least three people were killed and seven others injured on Tuesday in armed clashes between members of a tribal group and a military force in the city of Al-Dabba, Northern State, according to eyewitnesses and local authorities.

An eyewitness told Darfur24 that the violence erupted after a dispute between armed men from the two groups escalated into heavy fighting west of Al-Dabba market, near the livestock market.

The clashes left about 10 people dead or injured from both sides, while several civilians were also wounded.

The witness said the market was completely closed as residents fled to nearby neighborhoods amid panic and the sound of heavy gunfire. Calm later returned to the area.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the Al-Dabba Local Security Committee said security forces had brought the situation under control after clashes broke out on Tuesday afternoon between two groups involved in the trade of prohibited substances inside a palm farm west of the market.

The committee said the fighting caused civilian casualties because of the area’s high population density. It added that the Sudanese army, police, and supporting forces intervened quickly to contain the violence.

Authorities said they are still verifying the number of dead and injured and will release further details later.
