Kosti, January 14 (Darfur24)

A drone strike targeting the headquarters of the 18th Infantry Division in Kosti, White Nile State, caused panic in the city on Tuesday, according to multiple local sources.

Three identical sources told Darfur24 that the drone, believed to belong to the Rapid Support Forces, launched missiles at the Sudanese army headquarters in Kosti.

An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, said the drone fired three missiles at the military site, triggering fear among residents. Another source reported thick plumes of smoke rising from the targeted area and confirmed that at least one soldier sustained minor injuries.

However, a medical source at Kosti Teaching Hospital denied receiving any casualties linked to the airstrike.

The attack comes a day after heavy aerial bombardment struck Sinja, capital of Sennar State, killing more than 27 people and injuring civilians and military personnel. The Sinja strike targeted a meeting attended by governors and security officials from Sennar, Al-Jazirah, White Nile, and Blue Nile states. Several senior officials reportedly survived.

Since April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, with drones increasingly used in attacks on military positions and civilian areas under both sides’ control.
