Kabkabiya, February 25 (Darfur24)
Field teams from the Displacement Tracking Matrix estimated that about 2,690 people were displaced from the town of Mustariha in Kabkabiya locality, North Darfur, due to escalating insecurity in the area.
The teams said the displaced families had moved to various locations within Kabkabiya locality, while the situation remains tense and rapidly evolving. They added that monitoring efforts would continue to provide partners with updated information on displacement and population movements across Sudan.
Local sources told Darfur24 that dozens of people fleeing the desert area of Mustariha, considered a stronghold of Sheikh Musa Hilal, leader of the Mahamid clan and head of the Revolutionary Awakening Council, arrived in Kabkabiya on foot on Monday following clashes between the Revolutionary Awakening Council forces and the Rapid Support Forces.
According to the sources, the Rapid Support Forces took full control of the Mustariha desert after fierce fighting that erupted on Monday.
A Kabkabiya resident, Suleiman Ahmed, said dozens of women and children reached the town on foot and were accommodated in several schools. He described the humanitarian situation as critical, calling for urgent intervention to provide food, medicine, and shelter for the displaced families.
