Al-Tina, October 21 (Darfur24)
Five people, including two humanitarian volunteers, were killed and several others seriously injured in a drone strike on Tuesday targeting a gathering of Sudanese refugees in Bamna, inside Chad near the Sudanese border, according to a medical source and a local statement.
A medical source in Chad told Darfur24 that the strike hit a site sheltering Sudanese refugees, killing five people and injuring several others. Some of the wounded were in critical condition and required urgent surgery, the source said.
The Emergency Chambers Council in Al-Tina locality, North Darfur, said in a statement seen by Darfur24 that the dead included two volunteers and three refugees.
The volunteers were identified as Al-Hadi Sandal Issa, coordinator of the Bamna Emergency Chamber, and Adam Umda Arja, a member of its Programs Office.
The council said a complete communications blackout had hampered efforts to monitor the situation and check on the wounded. It warned that attacks on populated areas and refugee shelters were worsening civilian suffering and called for the protection of residents and humanitarian workers and safe access for aid deliveries.
Bamna, located inside Chadian territory, has received thousands of Sudanese fleeing fighting in Al-Tina, Ambaro and Karnoi in North Darfur.
The border areas have seen escalating clashes between the Sudanese army and allied joint forces on one side and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the other.
Karnoi, Ambaro, and Al-Tina remain under the control of the Sudanese army and allied joint forces, while the RSF and its allies have seized control of much of Darfur, including El Fasher in October 2025.
