Khartoum, August 17 (Darfur24)

The Central Bank of Sudan has extended the deadline for bank customers to update their personal data and account information until the end of 2026, following concerns about customers in conflict-affected areas.

The decision comes after several banks, acting on instructions from the Central Bank, warned customers that their accounts could be closed if they failed to complete the required updates.

The move has raised concerns among residents of Darfur and parts of Kordofan, where the war has disrupted banking services and made it difficult for many customers to access branches and complete administrative procedures.

In a statement on Sunday, the Central Bank said it instructed banks in February to update customer information and classify accounts in accordance with supervisory requirements and international standards for combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

The bank said the measures are intended to safeguard public deposits and customers’ funds and strengthen compliance with regulatory requirements.

It said some banks had already completed the process, while others were still updating their customers’ information.

The Central Bank urged customers to complete the required procedures, describing the process as a routine regulatory measure consistent with international banking standards and requirements for combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

It said the deadline had been extended to December 31, 2026, to give customers additional time to update their information.
