Khartoum, August 17 (Darfur24)

The South Darfur state government appointed by the Sudanese army has summoned 51 administrative officials to Khartoum and threatened administrative and legal action against them over alleged cooperation with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In a letter seen by Darfur24, the state government reminded the officials that a decision issued in May 2024 suspending work in the state’s civil service institutions remains in force, except for medical professionals working for humanitarian purposes.

The government ordered the officials to report immediately to the Coordination and Follow-up Office in Khartoum, warning that those who fail to comply will be referred to a committee for investigation and accountability.

It said the measures were intended to regulate the status of civil servants amid the exceptional circumstances in South Darfur and address alleged violations through administrative and legal procedures.

The list obtained by Darfur24 includes Youssef Idris Youssef, head of the state’s civil administration, who has been detained for several weeks over allegations involving land corruption and financial irregularities.

Other officials named include Musa Taha Al-Sheikh, executive director of Nyala Municipality; Jibril Issa, executive director of Nyala North; and Aqaba Abdel Hamid, executive director of Mershing, along with executive directors from Kabm, Al-Salam, Niteqa, Tulus and other localities.

However, several senior administrative officials were not included on the list, including Maria Ali Al-Sheikh, director of the Environmental Sanitation and Beautification Department; Jadu Al-Fahl, executive director of Rahad Al-Bardi; Hafiz Al-Saleh, executive director of Kass; and Omar Ali Aliyu, executive director of Baram. Executive directors of Umm Dafuq, Bilel, Al-Wahda, Al-Sunta and Damsu were also excluded.

The latest action comes amid a broader suspension of civil servants in South Darfur. According to Darfur24, about 500 employees have been suspended since 2024, including dozens of administrative officials and employees in the ministries of Finance, Education, Guidance, Infrastructure and Urban Planning.

In June 2024, Governor Bashir Marsal Hasaballah, who administers the state from Khartoum, suspended the work of the state government’s executive body and civil servants while continuing to pay their salaries.

He also warned that employees who cooperated with the civilian administration established by the RSF in 2024 would face dismissal and accountability.
