Tawila, July 09 (Darfur24)
Humanitarian volunteers have begun distributing daily meals to thousands of displaced people at the newly established Dabba Nayra camp, south of Tawila in North Darfur State, to help ease worsening humanitarian conditions.
Aisha Ibrahim, speaking on behalf of the volunteers, told Darfur24 that the initiative, which began more than a month ago, is supported by the organization Muslims Around the World.
She said around 3,000 people receive meals each day, most of them women and children.
One beneficiary, displaced resident Israa Mohammedin, welcomed the initiative and added that the meals have eased the burden on families amid limited humanitarian assistance reaching the camp.
She also alleged that some camp leaders and aid workers have manipulated food rations intended for displaced people.
Tawila hosts one of Sudan’s largest displaced populations, sheltering an estimated 665,000 displaced people, most of whom fled El Fasher and surrounding areas because of the ongoing conflict.
