Nyala, July 02 (Darfur24)

South Darfur’s General Administration of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control announced on Wednesday that two cholera cases have been confirmed in Nyala, prompting authorities to activate emergency response measures to contain the disease.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health said the second patient, confirmed on Wednesday, had been in direct contact with the first case, a resident who recently arrived from North Kordofan State, where cholera outbreaks have been reported.

The ministry said both patients have been admitted to the cholera isolation center in Nyala and are receiving treatment in accordance with approved health protocols.

It added that trained health workers have been deployed to respond to cholera cases under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Health of the Transitional Peace Government, to prevent any wider outbreak.

According to the ministry, emergency teams have begun tracing and monitoring contacts of the infected individuals, chlorinating drinking water sources, and conducting public awareness campaigns to reduce the risk of transmission.

The ministry urged residents to follow public health guidance, including treating drinking water, maintaining personal and environmental hygiene, and seeking immediate medical attention if cholera symptoms develop.

Health authorities had previously announced a cholera outbreak in West Kordofan State, particularly in Al-Nuhud locality, where the disease had caused numerous deaths and infections before spreading to other areas.
