Khartoum, June 29 (Darfur24)
The Central Bank of Sudan said on Monday that transactions conducted through the country’s unified bank account number (BBAN) system surpassed 234 million between 2025 and the first half of 2026, highlighting the rapid expansion of digital banking services.
In a statement, the bank said its Electronic Banking Services Company recorded more than 234 million inter-account transfers via the BBAN platform during the period, describing the figures as evidence of the accelerating digital transformation of Sudan’s banking sector.
According to the statement, the number of transactions rose from 92,800,820 in 2025 to 141,461,335 during the first half of 2026, representing a growth rate of 52.44%—one of the highest rates recorded in the region’s digital payments sector.
The Central Bank said the figures demonstrate that digital banking has become an established option for a broad segment of customers and reflect its commitment to strengthening electronic payment infrastructure and expanding access to financial services.
The BBAN service enables customers to make instant transfers between bank accounts using a unified account number, eliminating the need to visit bank branches or rely on cash transactions. The bank said the system is intended to promote financial inclusion and support Sudan’s transition to a cashless economy.
