El-Obeid, June 18 (Darfur24)

The city of El Obeid, capital of North Kordofan State, is facing a worsening humanitarian crisis marked by severe shortages of drinking water and fuel, as drone attacks continue to target residential neighborhoods and key service facilities.

Sources told Darfur24 that residents have been struggling with an acute water shortage since May, forcing many families to pay increasingly high prices to secure their daily needs.

According to the sources, the price of a barrel of drinking water has risen to between 8,000 and 9,000 Sudanese pounds, placing additional pressure on households already facing difficult economic conditions.

The city is also experiencing a near-total fuel shortage after service stations suspended sales following repeated drone strikes targeting fuel facilities and surrounding areas.

As a result, the price of a gallon of gasoline has climbed to around 120,000 Sudanese pounds, while public transport fares have increased to approximately 1,500 pounds per passenger.

The rising transport costs have forced many residents to limit their movement or rely on walking to reach workplaces, markets, and essential services.

Although markets remain open, traders say commodity prices have increased significantly due to higher transportation and distribution costs linked to the fuel crisis.

El Obeid has been subjected to continuous drone attacks for six consecutive days, with strikes targeting eastern neighborhoods and several fuel stations.

Residents have expressed growing concern that the continued attacks will further disrupt essential services and worsen humanitarian conditions in one of Sudan’s largest cities.
