Adré, June 06 (Darfur24)

The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) and Chadian authorities are accelerating the relocation of Sudanese refugees from the Adré border crossing to camps in eastern Chad as displacement from conflict-hit areas of Darfur continues to rise.

More than 60 Sudanese families recently received essential non-food assistance at the border reception center in Adré before being transferred directly to refugee camps, as part of a strategy aimed at reducing overcrowding at temporary transit sites and speeding up settlement in designated camps.

Newly arrived refugees told Darfur24 on Friday that most families had undertaken a difficult journey from El Fasher through Tawila before reaching the Chadian border, after escalating military operations and worsening living conditions forced them to flee.

Humanitarian sources said the direct-transfer system is designed to meet refugees’ immediate needs upon arrival and provide basic protection and support in more stable accommodation.

The measures come as displacement from conflict-affected areas of Darfur into Chad continues, placing increasing pressure on humanitarian agencies responding to one of the region’s largest refugee crises.
