Forbaranga, May 19 (Darfur24)
The locality of Forbaranga in West Darfur State is witnessing a rise in looting and killing incidents amid worsening insecurity that has heightened fears among residents, local sources told Darfur24.
According to the sources, one person was killed, and several others were injured in separate shooting incidents linked to armed robberies, as gunmen continue to spread across markets and major roads within the locality.
The sources added that community leaders have appealed to the West Darfur authorities to deploy additional security forces to protect civilians and contain the growing security breakdown.
In a related development, a local employee told Darfur24 that financial collection activities in the locality have largely stopped because of the deteriorating security situation, alongside demands that part of local revenues be directed toward supporting security arrangements.
He also noted that livestock trading had been severely affected over the past week due to mounting security concerns.
Forbaranga market is considered one of Sudan’s largest livestock markets after the Al-Moweileh market in Omdurman, making the disruption particularly significant for local commerce and livelihoods.
