Zalingei, April 28 (Darfur24)
At least 15 displaced people were injured on Monday when a drone strike hit Al-Hamidiya camp in Zalingei, Central Darfur, in an attack residents and local sources attributed to the Sudanese army.
A medical source at Zalingei Teaching Hospital told Darfur24 that the wounded—including women, children, and elderly people—were transferred for treatment, with several cases described as critical and requiring urgent surgery.
Among the most serious cases was a 77-year-old woman who sustained shrapnel injuries, the source said.
Eyewitness Hawa Ahmed reported that the strike targeted Block 4 of the camp, damaging and destroying more than five homes and causing panic among residents. The injured were rushed to the teaching hospital.
Adam Rijal, spokesperson for the Darfur Displaced Persons and Refugees Coordination, confirmed that the attack resulted in injuries of varying severity and the destruction of homes inside the camp.
The Sudanese army has not issued any official comment on the incident, and Darfur24 was unable to obtain a response.
Since the outbreak of war in April 2023 between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), drone strikes have become a frequent feature of the conflict, often impacting both military targets and civilian areas.
