Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has offered a top administrative post in North Darfur to Al-Nur Al-Qubba, a former RSF commander who recently defected, according to multiple sources familiar with a meeting held in Dongola.
Al-Qubba defected from the RSF last week and arrived in areas under army control, where he later met with Burhan in the northern city of Dongola.
An informed source told Darfur24 that the offer was made during a meeting between the two men, following an official reception held for the defected commander. The proposal is said to be part of broader arrangements to manage the state amid ongoing military escalation.
According to the source, Burhan described Al-Qubba as “the strongest to lead the state at this stage, to liberate it and expel the Rapid Support Forces.”
However, Al-Qubba reportedly expressed a preference for returning to Darfur to take part in military operations against the RSF, rather than assuming an executive position at this time.
“Al-Qubba showed greater enthusiasm for fighting than for the position, considering that the priority now is to achieve a decisive victory on the ground,” the source said.
In a related development, another source from the Sudanese Revolutionary Awakening Council confirmed that the army leadership had proposed Al-Qubba’s name for the governorship of North Darfur, but did not provide details on the timing or implementation of the move.
