Tawila, April 22 (Darfur24)
The Sudanese Red Crescent Society has distributed humanitarian assistance to displaced families in the “Dabba Nayra Al-Jadeeda” camp, south of Tawila in North Darfur, with support from the World Food Programme (WFP).
A coordinator with the Red Crescent told Darfur24 that the aid included cooking oil for hundreds of families, adding that field teams plan to continue distributions to reach the rest of the population in the coming days.
He noted that the assistance was initially expected to include additional food items, but deliveries were delayed. According to the coordinator, WFP partners cited administrative and bureaucratic restrictions—particularly related to truck clearance procedures—as a key obstacle slowing humanitarian operations.
Despite the support, displaced residents say the aid remains insufficient.
Halima Yaqoub, a displaced woman in the camp, said many families have not received assistance since fleeing Tawila Al-Umda to Dabba Nayra in March.
“We have not received any support since our displacement,” she said, adding that many lost both shelter and earlier aid due to repeated fires in Tawila Al-Umda camp.
She called on humanitarian organizations to increase support for those affected by the fires, warning of growing needs and worsening living conditions across displacement sites in Tawila.
