El Fasher, April 17 (Darfur24)
Violent clashes erupted in remote desert areas of North Darfur between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and forces loyal to the defected commander Al-Nur Ahmed Adam “Al-Qubba,” following the collapse of mediation efforts to contain tensions between the two sides, according to Darfur24 sources.
Major General Al-Qubba had defected from the RSF about a week ago, leaving his home area in Al-Waha locality for an unknown destination, amid reports that he had joined the Sudanese army.
Sources said the clashes broke out on Thursday, resulting in deaths and injuries on both sides. Several fighters from Al-Qubba’s forces reportedly surrendered to the RSF, while others were captured during the fighting.
The fate of Al-Qubba remains unclear, with conflicting reports about his whereabouts.
According to the sources, the RSF deployed military reinforcements from nearby positions and imposed a tight siege on the area, alongside extensive search and pursuit operations across the desert.
aMultiple sources within the RSF also informed Darfur24 that intensive contacts had been conducted, led by RSF Commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, with Al-Qubba’s inner circle in an attempt to dissuade him from defecting and persuade him to return to the force.
