Dilling, April 07 (Darfur24)

The Sudanese army announced on Monday that it had broken the siege on the city of Dilling in South Kordofan State after regaining control of the strategic area of Al-Tukma following intense ground fighting.

In a statement, the army said its forces recaptured Al-Tukma after clashes that inflicted heavy losses on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), forcing them to withdraw.

Local sources in Dilling told Darfur24 that the army’s advance into Al-Tukma played a decisive role in lifting the siege on the city for the second time, after weeks of renewed encirclement.

The RSF and SPLM-N had previously taken control of the area following the initial lifting of the siege on January 26, enabling them to reimpose pressure on the city.

Sources added that the army extended its control over the surrounding areas of Al-Tukma after fierce battles that resulted in significant casualties on both sides.

Earlier on Monday, the army also repelled a large-scale ground assault launched by RSF and allied SPLM-N forces from multiple directions targeting Dilling.

The latest offensive marks the fourth attack on the city since the beginning of the year, underscoring the continued strategic importance of Dilling amid ongoing fighting in South Kordofan.
