Abu Matariq, April 20 (Darfur24)
Two members of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) were seriously injured and their weapons stolen after gunmen attacked commercial trucks traveling from the Al-Raqibat border crossing with South Sudan toward Darfur, eyewitnesses said on Monday.
The attack took place in the Tutlutu area of Bahr al-Arab locality in East Darfur, where armed men in a combat vehicle intercepted trucks loaded with goods en route to Al-Daein.
Witnesses told Darfur24 that the gunmen opened fire on the convoy, wounding two RSF personnel assigned to guard the vehicles before seizing their weapons.
Residents rushed to the scene after hearing gunfire, prompting the attackers to flee without taking the commercial goods.
The Al-Raqibat crossing serves as a critical supply route for Darfur, providing essential food commodities and functioning as a key humanitarian corridor for Sudanese refugees fleeing to South Sudan.
The road has seen repeated looting incidents in recent months, including attacks that have killed traders, particularly those transporting fuel and food. The continuation of such attacks poses a growing threat to one of Darfur’s main supply lifelines amid the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
