Karnoi, November 02 (Darfur24)
Around 2,000 people have been displaced from several areas of North Darfur due to worsening insecurity, with some families fleeing across the border into Chad, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
In a statement on Monday, the organization said 850 people had fled the villages of Kamu and Tuki in Karnoi locality because of deteriorating security conditions.
The displaced families moved to other locations in Karnoi and Al-Tina localities, while some crossed into Chad, the statement said.
A further 1,150 people fled the villages of Mazbat, Ariri, Tari and Um Haraz in Um Baru locality amid rising insecurity.
Those families sought refuge in other locations within Um Baru or crossed the border into Chad, according to IOM.
The latest displacement comes amid repeated insecurity incidents in northern areas of Darfur, which have forced more families to leave their homes. The region is also facing worsening living conditions linked to drought associated with the El Niño phenomenon.
On October 24, around 895 people were reportedly displaced from the villages of Qarbura, Jaktura and Umm Haraz in Um Baru locality.
