Al-Daein, April 06 (Darfur24)
A measles outbreak in Labado town in East Darfur State has killed at least 59 people and infected hundreds, local emergency officials said, warning of a worsening health crisis.
The Labado Emergency Room stated on Saturday that the virus had spread rapidly across the town, following a comprehensive field survey that covered all neighborhoods.
According to the findings, overcrowding of cases inside homes and a severe shortage of medicines in health centers and pharmacies have contributed to a sharp deterioration in the situation.
The emergency room reported 350 confirmed infections and 702 suspected cases, noting that additional cases have yet to be recorded.
Officials warned that infections are continuing to rise daily, raising fears of an imminent health catastrophe without urgent intervention.
The emergency room called on humanitarian organizations, health authorities, and donors to respond immediately by providing medicines, medical supplies, and support for health workers, in an effort to contain the outbreak and protect residents, particularly children.
It emphasized that the situation in Labado requires swift and coordinated action to prevent it from spiraling further out of control.
