Khartoum, March 17 (Darfur24)
The Sudanese army said on Tuesday it had repelled attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Al-Tina in Darfur and Dilling in South Kordofan, while confirming it had withdrawn from the city of Bara in North Kordofan State.
The RSF had announced on Monday that it had taken control of Bara in North Kordofan and Karnoi in North Darfur following what it described as fierce battles with the army and allied forces.
In a statement, the army said it repelled a large attack in Al-Tina, reporting the destruction of 35 combat vehicles and the capture of 49 others, in addition to inflicting casualties among the attacking forces. These claims could not be independently verified.
In Dilling, the army said its forces repelled another attack, destroying five combat vehicles and capturing four others, along with motorcycles and communication equipment.
In Bara, the army said its forces engaged in fighting with RSF units before repositioning outside the city, “according to field assessments,” after inflicting losses on the opposing side.
The army also announced that it had shot down a drone on Tuesday morning over the skies of El Obeid using ground-based air defenses.
It added that military operations would continue until the Rapid Support Forces are eliminated and security and stability are restored in the country.
