Al-Tina, March 12 (Darfur24)
The Local Emergency Chambers Council in Al-Tina locality, North Darfur State, has issued an urgent appeal for assistance for more than 760 displaced families who recently arrived in the area amid what it described as catastrophic humanitarian conditions.
In a statement, the council said the displaced families are living in the open without shelter, water, food, or health services, forcing many to remain under the sun in an environment lacking the most necessities of life, a situation that has worsened during the month of Ramadan.
According to the statement, the displaced are spread across several newly established locations. Site (D) hosts 350 families and is facing a severe food shortage, with large numbers of children and elderly people among the displaced.
Site (E) includes about 170 families who lack tents and tarpaulins, forcing them to sit on the ground in harsh weather conditions.
At site (F), about 97 families are facing a complete lack of health care, with reports of disease outbreaks and shortages of basic medicines.
Meanwhile, site (H) shelters around 150 families living in a barren area with few trees and no permanent shelter, exposing them to intense heat while they struggle with hunger and illness.
The council also reported about 80 cases of pregnant and breastfeeding women among the displaced, many of whom urgently require medical and nutritional care.
The statement called on humanitarian organizations and relief agencies to intervene immediately by providing shelter materials such as tents, tarpaulins, and blankets, along with food assistance, health and nutrition services, including mobile clinics, children’s supplements, emergency medicines, and access to clean drinking water to prevent the spread of diseases.
